Our flowers need only simple care to keep them looking great. All of them will arrive thirsty and need water to perk up, so hydration is important during the first few hours of you receiving them. Most of our flowers will arrive in bud and open over time. Please allow a few days for the flowers to open completely. Follow the care instructions and you will have gorgeous flowers and plants to enjoy.
Next Day
Upon receiving your flowers, open the box as soon as possible and place your new flowers in a cool place. If you should find your flowers slightly wilted around the outer petals, it is simply due to a lack of water while in transit to your home. The following care instructions will help you get the most out of your newly purchased flowers.
Choose an appropriate clean vase and fill it with fresh, room temperature water. Add the included cut-flower food to the water. Remove any foliage that will be below the level of water in your vase. This will help discourage bacteria growth and increase the life expectancy or your flowers.
Flower stems can be cut to varying lengths, depending on the type and height of the vase in which you have chosen to display them. Cutting your flowers' stems at a 45-degree angle will ensure that they have plenty of surface area to absorb water and that they don't sit flat on the bottom of the vase. Avoid placing your display near ripening fruit, direct heat, in direct sunlight or in a draught
Water is just as important to flowers as it is to you and me, so be sure to maintain the water level in your vase by topping it up every day. They also require clean water, so be sure to change your flower's water every 2-3 days to ensure maximum beauty and vase life. Re-cutting the stems every 3 to 4 days may make your flowers last longer.
Flower Arrangements
On arrival make up the flower food as described on the sachet and pour the solution over the oasis block. Keep the oasis block moist adding fresh water every 2 - 3 days.
Avoid placing your display near ripening fruit, direct heat, in direct sunlight, air conditioners or in a draught.
Caution: Lily pollen can stain. Any lilies received should have the pollen stamens removed as they open. If you get any lily pollen on your clothing DO NOT rub off with your hands (rubs pollen deeper into the fabric). Use a toothbrush or a dry towel to brush off pollen. Remove by dabbing with cellotape.
Roses
Remove the outside guard petals. These rugged outer petals were left on to protect your roses during shipment. Premature wilting is not a sign that the rose is old. It usually indicates that air is trapped in the stem and the flower solution cannot flow up the stem. The end of the stem may be blocked, or there maybe some damage in the bark above the water level. Re-cut the stem above the injured section and then submerge the stem in warm water (about 100 degrees F). Be sure to keep the stem and head straight. It will usually revive within an hour and can be replaced in the arrangement.
Tropical/Exotic Flowers
It is important to unpack the flowers immediately on arrival. Do not refrigerate. To restore the flowers and extend their vase life, immerse entire stems in room temperature water for 10 minutes immediately after cut one inch from each stem. Cutting at an angle will allow maximum water absorption and make them easier to arrange.
Always make sure your flowers have plenty of water as tropical flowers especially need lots of water. Misting the flowers daily will help to extend vase life and keep a fresh appearance. Change the water and trim flower stems every few days.
Keep flowers out of direct sunlight and drafty areas and maintain temperature above 45 degrees Fahrenheit. Also avoid placing flowers near fires and air conditioning units.
Hand-tied Flowers
A 'hand-tied' bouquet is skilfully arranged so you can place the flowers straight into your favourite vase. The bouquet is delivered in a cellophane wrap with a bubble of water to ensure the flowers are as fresh as possible. Release the water from the bubble by cutting a hole in the cellophane over a sink. Remove all gift wrapping but do not untie your flowers if you want to retain the shape of your hand-tied bouquet, if you should wish to arrange the flowers yourself you can cut the tie.
Using a sharp knife or scissors, cut 3cm or 1inch off each stem at a 45-degree angle.
Choose an appropriate clean vase and fill it with fresh, room temperature water. Add the included cut-flower food to the water. Remove any foliage that will be below the level of water in your vase as these will decompose and contaminate the water, killing off your flowers.
Place the bouquet in a cool position, away from heating or cooling vents and appliances, direct sunlight or draughts, keep the flowers away from ripening fruit. Add fresh water daily.
Phalaenopsis Orchid Plant
Phalaenopsis originate from the rain forests of central Asia. They are epiphytic plants and grow on tree branches in the tropical jungles.
Phalenopsis can flower at almost any time, but their peak flowering period is the spring.
They love humid conditions and a bright bathroom makes an ideal room to grow them in. Mist during the summer months, a sunny windowsill is also a popular spot.
It is essential that the root system receives natural sunlight, this is why they are planted in clear pots, if placing into a decorative pot, ensure there is sufficient space between this and the plant pot. Water twice a week during the summer and just once during winter. Always from the bottom, using tepid water - about an inch.
When the flowers have died off, remove the stem from the next node down (make the cut above the node) and this will encourage new growth and flowers.
Plant Care Tips
Not only are plants a great enhancement to any home or office, they are also beneficial to your health. Study show that common houseplants are powerful, natural air cleaners, all the more reason to keep your plants healthy with the proper care.
Most plants like light and an even temperature. Avoid draughts, air conditioning and cold. Foliage plants require little water in winter. Flowering plants generally need more water. Every plant has its own specific requirements and all plants should be fertilised as required, For example, you will need to water Azaleas and Hydrangeas on daily basis and water St. Paulia and Cyclamen plants from the bottom and not the top
Keep plants in medium-light locations. Natural light is best although some plants also can thrive in office fluorescent lights. Most flowering pot plants should be placed in areas with the most light in order to maintain good flower colour and promote the maximum number of flowers to open. Foliage plants will do well under slightly lower light levels and can be placed in areas providing limited light.
Plant soil should be kept moist at all times and soil should not be allowed to dry out or the plant allowed to wilt. However, avoid over watering, do not allow plants to stand in water.
